The hump in the front floor has nothing to do with Syncro, AFAIK. VW modified that floor area on some turbo diesels for better airflow through the radiator. These also got a unique larger fan blade, fan motor, fan shroud as well as a different shift lever and front shifter box. The metal center floor section of the body is raised in the shifter area to allow this.
