Geez, I do that too!  Glad I'm not the only one.  Everything I get;
new, used, whatever, I take the cover off.  Just to see.
I think my opinion on the utility of the item is in part formed by my
impression of how well I think it is made.  Not that I always know
what I'm looking at.
