as for GM and their dreams..........
here and there,  they're doing it.  ( though they didn't envision the SUV
back in the 50's/ 60's, )
the modern corvette is certainly world class, and a whole lot of exotic car
especially consider they're half or even less than that the price of 'up
there' Ferrari's and porches, Lambo's etc.
