Always put the downdraft poles on just in case. We have been through some serious rains here in the Midwest to include the great Spring Buses by the Beach Flood of '04 - the side extensions never seemed to be a problem with rain coming through. Maybe the angle is different from unit to unit? I think the ShadyBoy is one the coolest, most functional mods you can put on a bus. -- Pete '79 Westy "Aardvark" '87 Westy "Joe's Van" WWW.Busesbythebeach.com On Thu, Aug 28, 2008 at 12:30 PM, Tom Buese <tombuese@comcast.net> wrote: > On Aug 28, 2008, at 10:12 AM, Alistair Bell wrote: > > So noted. >> >> But boy its really nice not to have any poles/lines during calm days. >> > > Yeah, that was my 1st impression also, but the 1/4" dia. poles at > each end w/ 10' of awning in between doesn't restrict you as much as > the hold down ropes to the vanagon bumpers, & those aren't too bad IMHO. > > Pax, > > Mr. BZ > > > >> >> Alistair >> >> >> On 28-Aug-08, at 8:59 AM, Tom Buese wrote: >> >> I highly recommend using the optional poles-a serious down draft will >> bend your roof brackets & reduce the height of the cantilevered >> awning so that it is too low to walk under w/o the poles-ask me how I >> know. >> >> YMMV, >> >> Mr. BZ-used it last weekend w/ hold down ropes & poles >> >
