The factory setting is 13.8. 14.5 is high and can do battery damage. I
would go with a regulator.

I've had the suggestion made that it may be a bad voltage regulator. I
put a VM on the battery with the car running, and it is putting out a
pulsing 14.5. Unca Joel commented that was a bit high, but it's a
cheap VM and may not be right on the money.
