The only really critical part is the mounts configuration. As long as they are the same, then a higher powered, higher amperage alternator is just fine. Changing the pulleys out to match the correct vehicle configuration can sometimes be a "spot of bother", but not too much. I have done it twice now, substituting cheaper, and more plentiful Scirrocco/Jetta higher-amp alternators into my van. In general, higher uotput will not hurt the vehicle, as long as the voltage is correct. --- On Fri, 9/12/08, Tony Collins <tonycollin@GMAIL.COM> wrote: From: Tony Collins <tonycollin@GMAIL.COM> Subject: Re: Alternator Question. To: vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM Date: Friday, September 12, 2008, 3:59 PM The reason I was asking is that I already have a 90 Amp alternator from a scirocco parts car. I was looking at pictures of the vanagons and believe that the bodies on both alternators look the same. I just did not know how many amps the vanagons where running. I like to free the electrons in all of my vehicles rumor has it that there are some 1980's audi with 120 amp alternators that would fit the roccos ergo the vanagons if my observation is correct. Any other comments or suggestions are welcomed I really have to get a Bentley.
