While your replacing those fuel hoses, it's also a good idea to retrofit a
brass sleave that fits inside the plastic fuel line just in front of the
firewall.  I'm not sure when VW started installing those but they prevent
the plastic line from deformeing when you tighten the hose lamp.  Here's a
