sure man, like you imply, I would go sanding harshly on the outside of brake lines, but any good rust treatment you can do , sure won't hurt. I usually spray cleaned rust spots with 'metal prep' .....the stuff that says 'turns rust to primered metal' ...... then put rust paint over that. That'll last a good while just fine. ----- Original Message ----- From: "neil N" <musomuso@GMAIL.COM> To: <vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM> Sent: Wednesday, October 22, 2008 12:38 PM Subject: Rust Paint a steel brake line? > Hi all. > > Upon inspecting the long brake line from front to back on my '81, > there is actually only a few spots of surface rust. > > I know it will need replacing at some point, but seems fine for now. > i.e. most of the green paint is ok and I don't feel/see any pitting. > So..... > > If I paint these spots (*light* sanding prep) with a rust inhibitor > paint, will that actually slow down the rust? > > Anyone done this? > > Kind of hard to get at the portion over the gas tank, but I'm pretty > sure I can get in there with a small paint brush. > > Neil. > > -- > Neil Nicholson '81 JettaWesty "Jaco > http://groups.google.com/group/vanagons-with-vw-inline-4-cylinder-gas-engines > http://web.mac.com/tubaneil > http://tubaneil.googlepages.com/
