The last tire I could get in there (215/65-16) I stowed with the hub down. For 2 reasons: 1/ same as Dave Milo's (valve stem available); 2/ the shifter "box" hit the tire if I stowed it hub up. With the hub down, that steel box fits inside the backside hollow space. bob '87 Syncro Westy
