Make sure you compare prices from several sources. www.thesamba.com in the classifieds section under Type 2 (Vanagon and up) and use www.craigshelper.com to search craigslist for prices. I've been looking for a manual transmission, and have see prices from $300 to $550 so far. I've seen junkyard ones for $95 including having them pull it for you, but you don't know what you're getting there.
