For the past 4 or 5 years I've been placing my Dell Inspiron 8600
laptop, on a stand in my Westy, when taking trips.  I use it with
DeLorme's GPS system.  I haven't experienced any problems with the HD
even though I've hit some pretty good bumps and many miles of vibration.

"Rugged" computers can be purchased that have shock mounted HDs but they
generally cost a bit more than run of the mill laptops.
