Jeff,
Did you remove the block drain plugs during this procedure? If so, you must
have  nicked or bent one of the pushrod tubes. Maybe you can get enough of
the shield's retaining hardware off to inspect the source of the leak. If
the problem  is a tube, it can be replace with a spring loaded version
