My local oldtime locksmith shop did this for me recently. I pulled a front door handle in the parking lot in under a minute, they looked up the code, cut 2 keys, charged me $10 and I was on my way 10 minutes later and most of that was due to conversation. I had a key already but it was very worn and hard to use in some of the locks. Mark Steve Sandlin wrote: > Sure, most of us worth our salt can do this. If it is done from a door lock, though, it will not work the ignition as there are 10 wafers in the ignition and only 7 in the other locks. There are many ways to generate keys. In the case of the Vanagon, the easiest way is to retrieve the code from a door lock and code cutting a key. This will only work, of course, if the locks have never been changed. Some locks are almost impossible to impression (the ":secret" method to which you refer) but that doesn't mean that keys can't be made. In the case of a Vanagon, if the locks have not been changed, I can pull a door handle, find the code, look it up, and cut a key in about 3 minutes.> ------------------------------------------------------------ + To unsubscribe from the Vanagon List send an e-mail to + listserv@gerry.vanagon.com with SIGNOFF VANAGON + in the body of the message. ------------------------------------------------------------
