I took my VW key blank to a locksmith yesterday.  He held a magnet to it,
and told me that he wouldn't cut the key on my blank because the steel would
ruin his cutter!  He offered to cut a key on HIS blank, but I already have
one of those.  I'll ask around to other locksmiths.  I've never heard of
this issue!
