Not really anymore in new passenger diesel cars, but likely yes in any
diesel that you'd put in a Vanagon.

Has anyone ever put a Mercedes diesel in a Vanagon?  I'd guess they are
too big and/or heavy.  I emailed KEP and they'd never heard of anyone
doing it.
