Per previous messages I'm trying to resolve a strange connector in my engine compartment. Bentley hasn't helped mainly because some wires are missing or improperly connected. However I am getting close. If you could look at the picture in the link you'll see a white wire with a connector in it. This picture was taken of an '87 GL I found (a parts van I plan to buy). The wire comes out of the harness, goes into the connector pictured, and then goes back into the harness. After seeing this I realized that that may be what mine is supposed to do (even though the connector type looks different). After taking a closer look at my harness I spotted where the wire should reenter the harness. I found a frayed, broken wire barely sticking out. It would seem a previous owner had assumed the loose wire went into oil sender connection and just jammed it in there (per my previous pictures). I will need to cut the sleeve of the harness to gain access to that nub of wire and reattach it. My question: Does anybody know what this connector is for? <http://kippert.com/vanagon/misc/mystery-connector.jpg> After studying Bentley as much as possible, I've noted that wire diagrams cover an early '86 (up to VIN 055 689) and late '86. Mine is early '86 so perhaps this connector changed in later models, thus making is more difficult for me to identify. Anyhow, if anybody knows what this connector is for, I'd greatly appreciate it!
