Mark is 100% corrct, they will loosn over time. I have numerous sets of MB alloys and steelies. When I first swapped thm over I was using the stock VW nuts. Please get intouch with Loggy on the Samba or source your own lugs that will fit perfectly. Do not tighten the hell out of the VW lugs and hope it works either. I have seen others do that with the now very popular CLK alloys and crack the mounting area and ruin the rim. lovin' my alloys. dylan ________________________________ From: mdrillock <mdrillock@COX.NET> To: vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM Sent: Wednesday, December 24, 2008 9:39:12 AM Subject: Re: More on TR 16x7 steelies The ball seat is not quite the same as stock 14" steel Vanagon wheels. The diameter of the hole is the same. The diameter of the ball they are machined to fit is smaller. There is a guy on Samba selling hybrid nuts needed to properly match the diameter of the smaller ball with the larger diameter lug hole. http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=656981 My guess is that one could use the stock ball nuts and just let them flatten the angle of the holes to match. My worry would be that over time the nuts would loosen so checking them from time to time might be a good idea. I would probably use different nuts myself.
