During the moderator discussion, I was surprised at implied negative
tone about the perceived technical focus of the list. Time has been
tight and I generally do massive deletions of list traffic based on
subject lines and it seemed to me that there has been depressingly
little technical content in the past many months. One price of this
approach is that I miss a good deal of useful discussion as I eject
material in a wholesale fashion. Hence, I enjoyed jumping on David's
reply to Ben's query.

I've been lurking in these halls, but my team and I are deeply into
the development of our instrument (searching for signs of extant or
extinct life on Mars). Although the mission has slipped to 2016, we
are now preparing to build the full scale prototype and move to more
field trials in the coming year. We now can detect one amino acid
molecule in a gram of soil. In any case, several modifications to the
TDi have remained in stasis in the garage and my desire smell the
pinewoods in the morning is becoming obsessive.
