Yes, the pictures are scary. But now that folks are starting to talk about cougars and all the other 'scary' things, it seems to me that the perspective is a little skewed. I can show scary pictures of auto accidents, too. And for every scary bear picture there will be _thousands_ of gruesome traffic deaths and people shot with their own firearms. Last time I checked, there still has not been a verified cougar death ever in Oregon, I don't know about the rest of the west. So you're still much more likely to be struck by lightning or be shot by your hunting partner. My friend wrote a song "Risky Business, Bein' Alive" all about the fact that being alive is one sure way to die. So don't go off the deep end about bears. You're more likely to die driving home. Matt -----Original Message----- From: Gregory S. Morrison Subject: Re: Bear Attacks Camper NVC ... All the bears I've encountered responded like big dogs. Honest. They've always taken off like they're in trouble. Of course, they probably weren't real hungry either. BTW, the really scary images of ferocious bears are usually pretty Hollywood. I've always been more worried about cougars than bears 'cause you might not hear them coming...
