Neil, I broke many punches trying to remove rivets from an 020(rabbit/golf/jetta) differential. To my surprise, a regular bolt worked much better. Clamp a junk bolt in a pair of vise grips and whack it with a 2 pound sledge. I think your results will be pleasing. I always wear ear and eye protection and leather gloves when doing this type work... -----Original Message----- From: Vanagon Mailing List [mailto:vanagon@gerry.vanagon.com] On Behalf Of neil N Sent: Wednesday, January 28, 2009 9:03 PM To: vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM Subject: Re: Lower Ball Joint Adaptor Questions (PICS) On Wed, Jan 28, 2009 at 4:46 PM, Jake de Villiers <crescentbeachguitar@gmail.com> wrote: > Propane is lame - get a real torch and they'll ease out like buttah! > > On Wed, Jan 28, 2009 at 1:58 PM, neil N <musomuso@gmail.com> wrote: For sure man. I heated it. Saw bubbles of oil between bolt and adaptor. I pounded it. One finally moved about a mm before the punch bent and broke! Ha ha! The spare control arm is "unknown" but looks straight. But the bushing in the '81 arm has less play so I may try to get someone to press those F'ers out of the adaptor. Then again a new bushing might be cheap. Still. I just have to "win" ya know. ;) Neil.
