In that case you are definitely running hot. My real experience is with air cooled. Does the water cooled bus use the same system to bypass the oil cooler? If it does then a weak or incorrect spring can cause lots of grief. In the air cooled bus, there is a balancing act going on between the oil viscosity, the bypass valve and the oil cooler. Other possibilities are airflow issues, timing issues, ignition timing that is not advancing correctly, something else in the driveline adding resistance, brakes dragging and running lean (not likely if FI). Yep. Changed the cap for a new one first thing after I saw the problem. Also tried the known-good cap from my other van. -- John Bange '90 Vanagon - "Lastwagen" '90 Vanagon GL - "Wiesel" No virus found in this incoming message. Checked by AVG.
