Hi all: Started up JoesVan last weekend to get it ready for Bus BRR and it puked red fluid on the driveway while warming up. Finally got around to firing it back and getting under it in the barn while running and in neutral. (It is an automatic) ATF about 1.5 qts down and fluid was leaking from the passenger side of the torque converter. Looked like the torque converter had spun some around on last weekend's short drive. I tried to dig up some info on Vanagon Archive list, but it is sitting and spinning and keeps timing on out on "Transmisson Seal Leak". The fluid was clean and didn't look like it had any coolant in it. The bus has unfortunately sat since December due to the very cold nasty weather this winter. My questions are these: Does this sound like the Tranny Seal behind the torque converter leak? Is it possible the seal dried out and will be "reacitivated" once the bus (and the weather) warms up? Has anyone had this happen and lived to drive again, or does the engine/tranny have to come out and the seal replaced? Thanks for any info By the way, the Aardvark is looking like a crazy option even with no heat - WE ARE STILL ON FOR BUS BRR! I'll be there if somehow! -- Pete '79 Westy "Aardvark" '87 Westy "Joe's Van" WWW.Busesbythebeach.com
