Fello van addicts, I love this community and the list, i have lurched here for years, and i have turned to this forum more than once for advice in solving my vans many quirks. My poor syncro has been sitting and waiting for an engine conversion for ever. I always get close to doing it, but every time i have enough money to do a conversion on her, life problems creep up, the money gets used and the van sits, and the wife gets frustrated with my obsession of keeping her and one day having my dream van. I am a big dreamer, and have put to many hours thinking about which conversion to do, and spent to many hours in the salvage yards dreaming. I finally narrowed myself down and am about to pull the trigger on a bostig deposit, when something on craigslist caught my eye. Someone local to me is selling a 86 vw quantum syncro with a audi 2.2 5cyl in it. It got me thinking about this conversion again. I once had an audi given to me as a donor for my syncro. After the audi 80 sat forever i finally gave it away because the physical parts for this conversion where very expensive, and after dreaming about it forever i finally decided to limp the boxer along. Long story short, i saw this quantum syncro and thought to myself what if. I wonder if vw used the same tranny in the quantum syncro as the vanagon syncro. Or if the bell housing mounts are the same. If so, it might be possible to pick that engine out of the quantum with the bell housing and stick it in the vanagon. I would only be missing the motor mount which you can get. So I ask the list for wisdom, would this quantums audi powerplant mount up to my vanagon tranny. If the quantum had been converted to this 5cyl the bell housing adapter might fit and all i would need to find is the engine mounting bar and mounts. It is a crazy thought but it is in my area cheap and again i am a big dreamer. What do my fellow vanagon friends think. Adrian
