VW offered a passenger-side 3-point rear seatbelt as a dealer-installed option on later model Westies, and it can be used on earlier ones as well. I put one in my own '87. Although there are aftermarket kits for a little less money, the factory parts are the way to go while they can still be had (which I suspect may not be for long). Not only are specifically built for Vanagons (and meet VW specs and safety standards), but they mount in the factory location and of course look completely stock. The retrofit is simple and we include a copy of the original VW instructions. It is also possible to put one on the driver side, but that trickier because the wardrobe cabinet is in the way (you have to cut a hole to allow the belt to go through it).
