I would bet on someone put oil in the overflow tank on the trip.  Easy
mistake for the youngsters.  Even if the engine pumped a bunch of oil into
the coolant, it would still look like mostly coolant or chocolate milk.
And it would be worse in the expansion tank since the concentration would
be higher.  Prepare to clean all that gunk out of there and flush your
cooling system.
