We've been putting MB wheels on Vanagons here since before I joined in 1999. The Vanagon Cafe Alternative Wheels page went up circa 2001. Anyway, putting MB wheels on can be as cheap or as expensive as your choice of wheels. Unfortunately, the List archives are not as easy to search as the Samba thread. This has been an endless discussion here. In fact durng my "early wheel research", I simply bought the wheels and tried to discover what it would take to put them on. Some of you may recall me bragging about having 160 spare rims and tires. Well, in a recent clean-up effort at my office storage, we discovered there are closer to 300 wheels in the stash pile. You can get MB wheels on a Vanagon as low as $50 which use stock Vanagon hardware or 19 inch monsters from AMG models which require longer bolts/studs plus spacers to fit. By the time you're done with some of the combinations, you'd have spent upwards of $300 for a proper set-up. Then there's tires. In end, it is often cheaper to put wheels intended and rated for Vanagons. Regards, BenT
