Go here and get the Vanagon Rescue Squad list:
http://www.vanagonauts.com/index.phtml?catid=74
There is also a link to Larry Chase's list of repair shops and the Air Cooled
Interstate Rescue list.
If you are over 62 and don't have one, get the Golden Age pass. It will get you into
any NATIONAL (not state or local) park, monument, recreation area free and half off
camping fees including those in national forests. Or if not over 62, and plan to visit
those places, get the annual passport or whatever it is called. Those fees can add up.
The Grand Canyon entrance fee is $25 and camping is $18.00.
I see you mentioned Sedona AZ. A very scenic, but high-end tourist trap. It's also a
"fee-demo" area. Can't even park to take a photo without paying, but if you have the
Golden Age pass, you can get a mirror hanger card (at the VC in town), no charge, and
insert the pass in it and hang on rear-view mirror. There are NF campgrounds in Oak
Creek Canyon just north of town, but they look to get pretty crowded in season. I
haven't used them; too close to home.
Instead of Sedona, try nearby Jerome, an old copper-mining town. More laid-back and
two nice FS campgrounds nearby.
Make friends with list-members who may reside in areas you will be visiting.
