Quite often a fuel pump makes noise (cavitates) due to fuel starvation. I had that problem, changed pumps several times, and finally dropped the fuel tank. It contained a lot of scale which was clogging the lines and starving the fuel pump. Cleaned the tank, replaced the old vent lines, and have not heard my fuel pump since. Good luck, Warren 88 Westy "Billy Bones"
