I use a product called POR 15. it's a black material used for filling small body dents. it's a bit glossy looking when dry for a black vanagon grill, but it works fine. I get my POR 15 in a tube ( it comes in black or white ) at a professional grade automotive paint and body supply store, not a FLAPS. A repair on my grill with it is holding just fine.
