but Jim............ this shouldn't be a surprise really ....... they are after all 'just volkswagons.' I have seen about a million idiviudally different failure modes on VW engines over the years, and I'll bet we'lkl see hundreds more types of failures, all ones we've never seen before. I happen to have a couple of pre-chambers out of an 80's era Mercedes dieesel engine ...... the part looks at least 5 times better made and more expensvie than the equivilant VW part. Many vw engine parts are made 'just good enough' and not over-built at all, looks to me. Cheap to get, cheap to fix. What's not to like ! ? ! ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jim Arnott" <jrasite@EONI.COM> To: <vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM> Sent: Saturday, June 06, 2009 2:22 PM Subject: Why Folly left Lisa at the side of the road >I have not seen this failure before: > > http://picasaweb.google.com/jr.arnott/DistributorDrive1?pli=1# > > Replaced it and Folly* runs again.
