A little plea - let's forget about the ECU price - I think we've (including me) have discussed it enough.   As pointed out we don't know how much time was spent and a shop has to make profit.  The mega-squirt stuff is interesting - but perhaps as a new thread would be best.  
Let's keep this thread positive and fun to read.
