Fortunately for them the weather has been unseasonably mild. I could see driving at night try to cut down on heat issues, if that's what they're doing; you wouldn't miss much in Kansas, but they're missing some amazing sights now doing it that way. Perhaps they can plan out the return trip so that they can actually see some of the country? They enjoyed a big breakfast of chicken fried steak and eggs and pancakes and are now enroute to San Francisco through the desert in the heat of the day! They report no oil consumption(!) or problems, but lots of time in the Colorado mountains in 2nd gear, around 23mph. Looks like they are generally cruising at a considerate 50-55mph when grade is even, and 3rd gear in the low 40's when attacking grades up to 3%. Still disappointed with the transmission of photos from them, but a few trickle in: http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/G-jE8CcKfaXgjBiaCUv_Fw?authkey=Gv1sRgCK bEwqyyxonXsQE&feat=directlink
