Ah! Across Highway 50 to Reno? Billed as "The Loneliest Road"..In a Van, there will be some long stretches there between habitation. Heading into Austin, NV. they should watch for the 'SpeedTrap Ahead" sign painted on the side of an old miner's shack... Don Hanson There is also one of the famous shoe trees along that road. ?Hundreds of pairs of shoes tied together by the shoe strings and hanging from the branches of a very large, but dead, tree. ?Also, in the lowest part of the valley the ground is all white, the residue of a long ago evaporated ocean. ?Travelers over the years have imported small rocks and used them to spell anything you can imagine in the white surface along side the road. ?Sayings, blessings, curses, initials noting affection, fraternity and sorority symbols, thousands of them, for miles! ?There are also some crarvings by native people at a site that looks like a place where buffalo were herded into to be killed. ?Interesting that there is a high water mark from the ancient ocean on a butte nearby. We truly enjoyed our trip along the Loneliest Road. ?Stopped at the Loneliest Payphone for a picture too.? Tom Ohio ? ?
