So my non vw mechanic just put in my rebuilt engine but needs to set
the timing of the engine. I gave him my bently and my haynes manual
but he cannot find out the information he needs.

Can anyone tell me what he needs to do? Or point me to some other
published documentation?

He tells me the manual is telling him he needs to disconnect something
before he does the timing. But he tells me the manual does not tell
him the proper steps, that items are left out.

Any help would be appreciated.

(PS obvious answers like find a real VW mechanic not needed.)
