Hi John My opinion would be bad idea. Snow tires are softer than summers. They would wear quicker, also they have less tread on the road, not so good for braking on hot pavement. I am using General Altimax RT 205/70 R15 on the standard steel rims. They have the reinforced sidewalls and have an adequate load range 98T for vanagon / Westfalia use. They are $58 USD at the Tire Rack. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=General&tireModel=Altimax+R T&partnum=07TR4AMAXRTXL&vehicleSearch=false&fromCompare1=yes&place=1 There are better tires, but these will at least be safe :-) Dave '86 Westy On 17/07/09 4:01 PM, "John Rodgers" <inua@CHARTER.NET> wrote: > Dennis, et al, > > What do you all thin of running this tire in a dry/wet (Alabama) climate > as opposed to a snowy climate.
