Well, I finally completed my entire brake job, including installing 2
1mm shims on each side of the wide v-shaped thing at the bottom.  I
have excellent stopping power, but now I have no emergency brake at
all.  I hooked them back up just like they came off and I adjusted the
cog-wheel until they were too expanded to get my drum on, then I
backed them off to get the drum on and turning okay.

I just backed my van down the driveway several times, tapping the
brakes, hoping that the automatic adjusters would tighten things up if
needed.  However, I have no parking brake at all.

Help please...
