we di have the same problem in canada ..
i am familiar with one company that will charge 2% for credit card payments
(this is illegal... i have not yet run into a cash for cash tendered )
but last month i bought a couch and the sales clerk was surprised and
shocked to se cash$$ in  large bills
even commented how unusual it was to accept cash ...
this was at sears ...
and of course there is the usual extra 20$ i have to include with every
cheque (:P:P)
