Subject:I did it

For the last two and a half weeks, I have been working on my 82 diesel
westy, in a one car garage of 110deg F day and night, with about 1 to 1.5
feet of clearance around the front, back and sides, to do the following:

Upgrade the leaking 82 radiator to the later version, adapting
pick-and-pull upper and lower mounts so its done right.
New hoses below the radiator
Used the old fan, spliced in for the newer stye fan temp sensor, checked
wiring and tested fan.
Cut off the rear 3 feet of leaking rusted steel pipes and replaced with
straight sections of hose, new custom supports
Pulled the gas tank and cleaned the rusted top, checked out and rehab'ed the
fuel level sender
Replaced rubber bushings on top of tank, rust converted and painted tank
top, new packing
Tested the fuel guage at dash
Replaced the heater valve, and the heater hoses front to back (spliced to
the hose end at head)
Lube'd shift linkage incl. center bushing with hypo needle/grease (still in
good shape after 26 years)
Removed the last vestages of Eberspacher heater harness and fuel lines,
plugged all body holes with plugs
Re-routed PO wiring jobs
New rubber bellows at rear of shift linkage, greased pin
Cleaned and lube'd everything
Adjusted shift linkage
Lots of zip ties

I have 3.5 gallons in now, after next cooldown will probably get most of the
rest of the flush and water in. Road tested, no leaks. Many thanks to the
many listers here for advice and support leading up to, and during this
debacle, and to the archives for much info. Time for a beer.
