Right on ! This SMALL problem is the cause of improper cooling
even after a new waterpump has been installed. If the engine case has been
ground away where the impeller tried to grind its way through the case when
the bearing goes bad, the tolerance between the case and the impeller will
reduce the efficiency of the new pump. You have to fix that ! Not easy
but can be done with JB weld and masking tape as a dam. Then sand flat with
whatever you can get in there with. I have a small eclectic sander the
works well for this tedious job !
>>>>Something to keep in mind if you're reusing the current engine block -
if, due to bad bearings, the water pump is spinning at an angle, the
impeller will rub against and wear the block, increasing the tolerance
and decreasing the efficiency of the new pump if allowed to go on for
long.<<<<<
