the idea is to provide an intermediate 'bump' on the limit strap thingey, so it can stop opening at about 55 to 60 % open, so as to not hit another car parked alongside, yet it can open all the way in the normal manner the rest of the time. Like a detent there, like an older Mercedes has. I'm going to pull a limit strap off a parts vanagon of mine and see it's easy to modify one of those metal limiting strap thingeys, for just this purpose. Seems very doable to me so far. It is not the hinges that stop the door travel. You want to check the "door check" This can be shortened or shimmed to limit how far the door opens. Have any of you ever modified the front door hinges to stop before opening all the way? I find that with narrow parking spaces, its hard for me to keep my front door from hitting the car parked next to me if I'm not really careful. Newer cars seem to have a part-way hinge stop that helps avoid putting a dent in the car parked next door. I can't remember if previous van's I've owned operated differently or if they all do this. Thoughts anyone? Madeline '87 Westie Milko III
