Neat summer campsite only a few miles from Furnace Crk is Bristlecone
Campground, around 8500 ft, off highway 168, which is a trip in itself.
Road runs from Bishop Ca. to Lida, NV, and toward the summit narrows down to
one lane (to be shared by EB and WB traffic).

Nice campground, as I recall, and pretty cool (damned cold over Memorial Day
WE!).
