No Vanagon I've ever seen has the light in that switch EXCEPT
mine. I put it there years ago ! The hole is for a light bulb and socket.
Why they put the hole and circuitry to run that light is beyond me but it
sure is there to light up the switch rocker. I forget which VW socket
assembly I used but probably the same one that is used for the heater control back
light works. The circuitry I forget also, but a bit of experimentation
will get you there.

plug
that goes on the back of the light switch. There seems to be a hole in the
front of the plug like a light goes in it. Is there supposed to be a lamp
in this plug (to light up the headlight switch when it is turned on)? If
so, what is the lamp for the switch on an 84GL Vanagon?<<<<<<<<<
