re "TDC was > determined with a dial indicator on the top of the piston. " yes, but on WHICH tdc ? - the piston comes up on both compression and end of intake/start of exhaust. You watch # 3 valves to tell when it's on # 1 tdc on compression. You can also look at the cam lobes - they need to be pointing down for it to be on compression, the lobes for # 1. ----- Original Message ----- From: "neil n" <musomuso@GMAIL.COM> To: <vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM> Sent: Friday, December 18, 2009 11:08 AM Subject: Re: stumped On Thu, Dec 17, 2009 at 2:09 PM, Robert Ueltzen <robueltzen@gmail.com> wrote: ..... > 3. Says the same as you wrote for timing marks on the SOHC engine. I can't say for sure if same for Tiico though. Spark plug wires correct? Are both valves closed on #1 when rotor at #1? Is there an inspection hole to look for TDC indicator on flywheel? And to be sure, are you counting cylinders from drivebelt to tranny?
