It involves some hacking but seemed straight forward when I read the post. Don't know where or when it was. Perhaps someones who has the link handy will post it. dylan ________________________________ From: Joel Cort <joel_cort@YAHOO.COM> To: vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM Sent: Mon, January 25, 2010 4:04:50 PM Subject: Re: heater fan whine Hey Ron, Good news and bad news. The good news is that the rear heater fan is real easy to get to by lifting the rear seat and removing the plasticcover. You should be able to get to the heater fan motor and drop a little oil on the brass bushing. The bad news - the front heater bloweris installed onthe front heater assembly tucked under the dash. It is extremely hard to get to it withoutremoving the dash. Removing the dash is not hard butit is time consuming and you will spend the weekend. No guarantees that applying oil or lubricant on what you can see of the front heater blower will fix or reduce the whine noise. The best solution is to replace the front blower and that will run you some bucks - around $120 or so. Good luck. Happy Camping, Joel Cort Rochester NY jcort@rochester.rr.com joel_cort@yahoo.com 89 Syncro Westy (VanGo) 87 Syncro Transporter (Stella) 73 Westy Campmobile (Agent Orange) Western New York LiMBO Respresentative www.limbobus.org Founding member of the Empire State VW Camping Club www.empirevwcamping.org Westies@Watkins IX is set for October 7-8-9-10, 2010 www.westies-at-watkins.org ________________________________ From: ron johnson <rcj.yes@GMAIL.COM> To: vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM Sent: Mon, January 25, 2010 2:39:23 PM Subject: heater fan whine Quick question - both the front and rear heater blowers whine after 5-10 minutes operation. How difficult is it to lubricate these poor animals? thanks, Ron J. PDX, OR '91 Weekender, AT
