Make sure the center axle nut is properly tightened. Sometimes these are not properly torque and the looseness will cause the splines and sides of the flange hub to wear and make things worse. Enough movement will strip about the splines and leave you stranded. Enough side play will damage the bearings. If loose enough to clunk the flange hubs need to be replaced.

Subject: 85gl rear drums

hello all,

seem to have a weird issue with my drivers side rear drum, replaced shoes, cyls, shoes
hardware. still have a noise, clunk at speed. sounds like the shoes hitting the inside
drum. anyway to get things to hold better? adjust, backing plate is flexing when i pump the pedal.

my CV's are ok, could it be a crapped out bearing? I wish i could get rid of these
drums in the back, pain in the neck..

thanks in advance.

Joe
