Cool. Makes sense to me, though I haven't compared prices on using an adapter plate. There's a thread somewherre on the samba discussing this, or similar, part. I think there are some advantages beyond keeping it Suby (parts availability etc.) when using that type of product. Just finished transmission R&R. I"m using a KEP plate. On the plate, the upper pass. side fastener between engine/tranny is a long stud. Seems to make it tougher to get tranny on, but for sure makes putting the bolt on starter tougher. There's reasons why it's a nut bolt type thing from factory. (at least on the air cooled.) Then again, I made an accel. cable bracket that is now in the way a little. That and wires in the way doesn't help. http://sites.google.com/site/tubaneil2/FuelhoseThrottleBrack2.jpg Even with a little metal Dremeled off starter, there's still no room for socket or box end of wrench on that nut. This makes for 1/6 turn, flip wrench, 1/6 turn.... I'm beginning to appreciate what goes into designing something! Neil.
