we don't know as we don't know the specs for the original vc fluid. there are a few different forms of siloxanes/dimethecones etc I *think* the vc fluid is a polydimethylsiloxane, but what molecular weight (ie what polymer size)? The fun part is that the us supplier has some stuff cheap, and if you had the time and inclination you could play around with clapped out vc, do some bench tests etc. Maybe even make a model vc for the science fair :0 alistair On 3-Apr-10, at 9:48 AM, Loren Busch wrote: On Sat, Apr 3, 2010 at 9:35 AM, Alistair Bell <albell@shaw.ca> wrote: > dont need to be a chem major, just need to get the specifications > of the > original siloxane and compare to what you can buy off the shelf. > Problem is, original specs are not published, or perhaps Derek Drew > knows. > I'm totally ignorant on this subject. But a quick Internet search seems to show that the two terms used, siloxane and dimethicone, are similar but different versions of a silicon oil. So that got me wondering if what the German source is selling is actually the right product or 'snake oil'.
