yeah, i think its a polydimethylsiloxane. but molecular weight unknown, and correct viscosity... Derek Drew mentions he has a bottle of the right stuff, but was warned against trying a refill by some VC expert. I think that is related on his VC page (linked by neil below) I don't think that vc refilling will ever become an easy do it yourself project. I just like to de-mystify the subject :) alistair On 3-Apr-10, at 10:07 AM, neil n wrote: On Sat, Apr 3, 2010 at 9:35 AM, Alistair Bell <albell@shaw.ca> wrote: > dont need to be a chem major, just need to get the specifications of > the original siloxane and compare to what you can buy off the shelf. > > Problem is, original specs are not published, or perhaps Derek Drew > knows. > I am not a chemistry type, but was curious. From Wiki on Siloxane: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Siloxane Dow Corning on their VC automotive use product: http://tinyurl.com/ydh2d6j One example of a polymerized siloxane on Wiki page is polydimethylsiloxane. DC's description of the VC product is "Dimethyl-based viscous coupling fluid". "Silicone Oil" shown here: http://www.thesage.com/catalog/products/Dimethicone.html says "polydimethylsiloxane" Could DC's product be the right stuff for Vanagon VC? If so, group buy? Here's a Vanagon page by Drew on VC. I'm sure most have seen it, but I hadn't. http://tinyurl.com/yg5s83a Neil. -- Neil Nicholson '81 VanaJetta 2.0 "Jaco" http://tubaneil.googlepages.com/ http://groups.google.com/group/vanagons-with-vw-inline-4-cylinder-gas- engines
