That wear is normal and is a cause of clutch chattering. It is also common for the forks to break of the cross shaft. Looking at the lack of weld it is possible that shaft is a low cost Brazilian replacement. Very soft cold rolled steel. While this points should be lubed do not count on that lasting forever. The shaft seems to last for one or maybe two clutch jobs. This should always be inspected during a clutch job. Abnormal? PICS Hi all. Transmission would catch slightly in all gears. Pulled it, and TOB appeared to be installed incorrectly. It appeared loose. (at time, I also suspected poor clutch hydraulics. He said hoping transmission is ok! :) Are these wear points on each arm normal high mileage wear? If not, do they indicate an incorrectly installed TOB? http://tinyurl.com/ykd8co9 http://tinyurl.com/yhyvdg8 Neil. -- Neil Nicholson '81 VanaJetta 2.0 "Jaco" http://tubaneil.googlepages.com/ http://groups.google.com/group/vanagons-with-vw-inline-4-cylinder-gas-engine s
