FWIW, I repaired the clock in my '84 using this website:

My clock failure was that it would stop running during cold nights,
work the next day.  Got progressively worse.  Typical symptoms of a
dying capacitor.

Did the repair exactly as described (right down to the peanut can)
about 5 years ago and it has been perfect since.
